Acupuncture Care for Motor Vehicle/Car Accident Injury
Acupuncture has proven to be a highly effective therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and injuries caused by a whiplash from a motor vehicle/car accident. It effectively reduces neck and back pain, muscle spasm pain, inflammation, bruising, numbness/tingling, headaches and promotes the healing of the torn muscle fibers and ligaments caused by the stretching and tearing from the abnormal motion of a whiplash injury. It can also have a very calming effect on the nervous system, and greatly reduce symptoms of anxiety due to the trauma of the auto accident. Acupuncture can also significantly reduce your recovery time from injury, and return you to your normal activities sooner without the side effects that pain killers and high doses of anti-inflammatory drugs can cause. Acupuncture works by stimulating your own body’s natural release of endorphins and anti-inflammatory mediators to reduce pain and promote healing. By improving the smooth flow of blood through tight injured muscles with acupuncture, and bringing the needed nutrients for healing to damaged torn fibers we can reduce pain and swelling, and improve range of motion and flexibility.
Benefits of Acupuncture for Whiplash Injury
Reduces pain by releasing natural endorphins & calms anxiety. Decreases inflammation by stimulating the body’s natural immune response. Reduces tight muscle spasms by enhancing blood circulation. Relieves headaches, numbness & tingling in extremities. Increases flexibility and range of motion.
New Research on the Mechanism of Whiplash Injury
New research shows that the mechanism of injury to the neck from whiplash trauma is not due to “hyperflexion or hyperextension movement” as previously thought. Rather, it is a shearing activity that occurs in the cervical spine in less than a tenth of a second at the point of impact. This shearing effect is an abnormal motion and causes stretching and tearing in the ligaments, cartilage, and muscle fibers of the neck, and can lead to a whole symphony of problems such as nerve entrapment, dizziness, inflammation, headaches, anxiety and thyroid or adrenal imbalances. At Soaring Crane Acupuncture we utilize many of the traditional Chinese Medicine healing techniques, as well as a modern technique called Orthopedic/Sports Medicine Acupuncture, to promote the healing of torn soft tissue and reduce pain, inflammation, and neurological symptoms. We believe this approach offers the best of East & West by integrating the bio-mechanical assessments of orthopedic medicine to specifically identify injured muscle groups and other obstacles to healing.
